May 7th - Pat and I will be heading back to Italy tomorrow for a tour of Northern Italy and the Lakes Region just south of the Dolomites this time. We will be flying into Milan and joining a tour that Trafalgar has put together for the GlenLakes Italian Renaissance Club here in our community. The itinerary is as follows:
May 8, 9 - We will fly from Tampa to Miami and then on to Milan. We will arrive a day before the tour starts and try to acclimate ourselves and see a few of the sights of the city.
May 10 - Tour Milan on our own then in the afternoon we get to meet our Tour Director and have our Welcome Dinner.
May 11 - Tour Milan, visiting the Gothic Duomo, the 19th century Galleria and La Scala Opera House. Drive to Lake Como and take a cruise on the lake. Spend night in Como.
May 12 - Drive north into Switzerland to visit Lake Lugano then drive back to Italy to the town of Baveno on Lake Maggiore. Tour town and spend night.
May 13 - Visit Town of Stresa with cruise on Lake Maggiore to Isola Bella where we will visit the Borromeo Palace and Gardens. Spend night in Baveno.
May 14 - Drive to Verbania to visit Villa Taranto Botanical Gardens. Continue on to old city of Bergamo for sight seeing in Lake Garda district. We will spend the next 3 nights in Desenzano Del Garda.
May 15 - Visit Scaligers Castle in Sirmione. Then to Verona to see the Roman arena and Juliet's balcony (Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet takes place in Verona).
May 16 - Tour Lake Garda and visit town of Brescia at the foot of the Alps.
May 17 - Visit the 14th century town of Marostica and Bassano del Grappa, a town renowned for its white brandy.
May 18 - Drive to Modena. Walk the old town and see Piazza Grande and the Ghirlandina Tower. Visit 12th century Romanesque Cathedral and the Ferrari Museum. Drive to Parma for dinner and night.
May 19 - Visit town of Soragna to visit Museo del Parmigiano-Reggiano to learn about cheeses. Continue on to Venice which is the last stop on the tour. We will be staying on Guidecca Island.
May 20 - Take boat cruise to St. Mark's Square and visit the Basilica, Bridge of Sighs and Doge's Palace. Return to Guidecca Island for glass blowing exhibition.
May 21 - Cruise to Murano and Burano Islands for sightseeing and lunch. On our own the rest of the day.
May 22 -We will be up really early as we have a 7:35 AM flight to Madrid, then onto Miami and finally Tampa. Then we get to drive home and collapse.
Should be a lot of fun and interesting. Since this is our local Italian club we will know everyone on the trip. I will try to post photos and info daily but don't be too surprised if I get behind
